Our Farmers Market is Flourishing
As the summer season ramps up, the Farmers Market in Downtown Morristown is in full bloom.
It is always interesting to hear the individuals early in the year questioning where all the farmers and produce are, and maybe they didn’t grow up in East Tennessee so we have to explain that crops don’t magically appear the first week in May and last until October. Different items grow at different times of the year, and while we all want fresh produce available every day, a big part of farming is actually picking the produce and working the field. We are very much “on demand” society and while that is fine with most everyday items, if you prefer locally grown produce, the wait is worth it!
Our market requires a certain percentage of products to be locally grown on the farming side and also includes homemade baked goods, meats and crafts. I love stopping by our market on a Saturday and seeing the variety of offerings. This year the market is at capacity with farmers, bakers and artisans occupying all 25 of the available spaces.
Now with HOLA Lakeway’s Tianguis Market in the evenings on the 3rd Friday of each month, it allows us to have even more diverse offerings in Morristown at the Farmers Market! I encourage you to check it out.
