Will We Be Successful in Workforce Development

As we continue into the Christmas season, we are seeing many of the “black Friday” deals appear much sooner than ever before. Retail as we know it has permanently changed. Some of our largest retailers in the country are no longer called stores, but internally are called “distribution hubs.”

As we move into the future, the customer experience we all know in retail will shift to more automation, less customer experience and connection and a push toward online sales. Sadly, one of the simple causes this is workforce. It is hard to staff a store if no one is applying. It isn’t quite this simple, but if you enjoy purchasing things for you, your family and your friends and you find yourself short on cash this year, work is still an option. We know our government has made a valiant effort to replace that income that is still available to be EARNED in our community, but it is up to us as leaders, business owners and officials in our community to set the example that Morristown/Hamblen County is and will continue to be the job leader in our region. Being the job leader is wonderful, but more importantly, over the next few years, will be our community’s success in workforce development.
