As the excitement for Thanksgiving and Christmas, especially the Christmas parade heats up, we want to remind you to be wary this season. As all of you know, electronic data is in your life so protect it like you would your own family! When you receive an odd email from a close friend, click the return address and you will usually find it going to someone totally unrelated.

Also be very careful believing everything you see and hear online. We were amused to see our “newest super secret data mining facility” in town lately that has only been publicly discussed for the last 2 years, seeing our city and county taking responsible steps to place these types of industries in suitable locations like industrial districts and not in agricultural and residential locations like others have done.

I remind our staff to be aware of power posters between the hours of 9-5, typical work hours. It is hard to be informed of the goings on in a community if you are buried online all day instead of having real interactions with community leaders. We hope these interactions are what our Chamber can provide through breakfasts, after hours events, our Chamber Ambassadors and other chamber events and programs. You will get the real news and not just speculation or uninformed guesses about our community. Remember, those that bark the loudest are usually just loud, not correct.
