The 2017 Leadership Morristown class members had a full day of activities on September 19 when they focused on local government and public safety. The day was scheduled and planned by Hamblen County EMA Director Chris Bell, LM ‘13 Alumnus.
The day gave the participants an opportunity to meet both City Mayor Gary Chesney, County Mayor Bill Brittain, Interim Director of Schools Hugh Clement and the members of the Chamber’s Board of Directors. They also toured the Hamblen County Courthouse offices, the Morristown City Center and the Hamblen County Jail. Circuit Court Clerk Teresa West explained how a case travels through the court system from booking to the courtroom.
Demonstrations from the Morristown Police Department, Hamblen County EMS, and Morristown Fire Department were highlights of the day.
The personal development skill for the session was on Conflict Resolution and was presented by Donna Blevins of Stepping Out.
The day concluded at the Morristown City Council meeting at which time the participants were recognized.
